One client from Victoria just asked me how actually safe it is to live in Port Moody. Well, rather than telling tall tales about Port Moody, I quickly went into digging about the topic, and here is what I got. I found the numbers interesting so might as well as to share it you too.
The City of Port Moody not only boasts of the cultural tourism, but also takes pride of being the safest city in Greater Vancouver. As of 2003, only 68 offenses for 1000 population was recorded. Since 1998, over-all crime offenses per 1000 pop. plummeted to 20% -the greatest percentage decrease in crime rate, only followed by North Vancouver City by 18% . Comparing communities in the city, crime offenders are more of transient population like commuters, tourists and migrants who are not counted as the resident population. Check out the stats below.
I also checked the Port Moody Police Department website, and glad to know the common offenses in the city are less serious such as small time mischief, break & entry and small-scale auto-theft. So, it is safe to say that one can live peacefully in this city, just keep ourselves vigilant. A vibrant city with thriving businesses, a rich historical heritage, people that care for each other and place in -no wonder Port Moody is one of the most livable places in the world.
